Rangers confiscate perlemoen from 'bergie'

An alleged "mule" working for a Hout Bay perlemoen poaching syndicate will appear in Simon's Town magistrate's court in the Western Cape on Wednesday after being arrested by Table Mountain National Park marine rangers.

At Simon's Town, the man allegedly jumped from a car driven by two perlemoen divers, who had managed to speed away from the rangers at Miller's Point on Tuesday night.

The man then joined a group of bergies sleeping near the police station and pretended to be one of them when confronted by the rangers. But he was betrayed by a long trail of perlemoen slime leading from the road to the bergies' sleeping spot.

The rangers confiscated a bag containing 71 perlemoen.
