DEMA rival axed

The launch of a new dive show in the US has been cancelled, it has been announced. DiveBizExpo 2006 gave way after rival show DEMA acceeded to the US dive industry's demands and agreed not to stage its event in Houston.

It was at the urging of many disgruntled DEMA exhibitors that events organisation ConvExx planned a rival trade show. DEMA's organisers responded to the challenge and ConvExx chairman Chuck Schwartz decided to pull out.

"If our launch caused the industry association to take notice and do the right thing, then the goals have been reached, if not by us, then through us," Schwartz said.

DEMA board member Carl Vincenti said he hoped all dive industry members would now make plans to attend the upcoming DEMA show in Las Vegas.
