Bahamas: Diver attacked by large shark
A resident of Grand Cay, Abaco is presently detained at the Rand Memorial Hospital, after sustaining serious injuries to his face following a shark attack over the weekend.
Thirty-five-year-old, Nixon Pierre and companion Oliver Russell, 36, were out in a 17ft. Freeport Skiff, fishing and diving conch about one mile north of Grand Cay, when Pierre was attacked.
Reportedly, as Pierre was diving in about 20ft. of water, he was suddenly attacked by a large shark, which bit him on the right side of his face.
Mr. Russell helped his wounded friend back into the boat and rushed him over to Grand Cay, where he received emergency medical treatment at the Government Clinic.
Pierre was later taken by boat to Walker's Cay, from where he was flown aboard a Regional Air flight to Freeport.
A doctor at the Rand Hospital described Pierre's condition as serious but not life threatening.
The species of the attacking shark has not been determined.
