South Africa: Body of missing diver found

The decomposed body found on Kommetjie beach this week is believed to be that of a diver who went missing three weeks ago.

National Sea Rescue Institute spokesman, Craig Lambinon said the body, found on Wednesday morning clad in a wetsuit and buoyancy vest, was believed to be that of Charles Heyns who went missing during a night dive off the Kakapou shipwreck near Vulcan Rock off Hout Bay on September 22.

Police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn said they had not yet identified the body, and that an inquest docket had been opened.

"We will conduct the necessary tests to identify the body," she said.

Heyns, a car salesman from Sunset Beach, had five years' recreational diving experience.

Lambinon appealed to the public to exercise caution when using the sea. "Put safety above all else," he said.
